Does insurance cover midwifery services?

Most insurance carriers cover midwifery services. In fact, midwifery services usually cost less for both insurers and clients. City of Oaks Midwifery is considered “in-network” for many insurance plans offered in the Raleigh, NC area. Please keep in mind that what is covered by individual plans vary and check with your insurance carrier to see if your policy covers care at City of Oaks.

What services can a midwife provide?

A midwife can provide full-scope care for women in all stages of life. Because the midwives at City of Oaks are Certified Nurse-Midwives, they can provide primary care with an emphasis on pregnancy, childbirth, and gynecologic & reproductive health.

What kind of training and certification do the City of Oaks midwives have?

All three of the midwives at City of Oaks Midwifery are Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs). CNMs are graduate-level educated and professionally licensed medical practitioners. CNMs have similar education and training as a nurse practitioner, but with further specialization in midwifery, so they are qualified to deliver babies.

Do your midwives have privileges at any hospitals?

Yes. Our Certified Nurse-Midwives have delivery privileges at UNC REX Hospital and perform all deliveries at REX. 

Are you affiliated with any other practices or physicians?

Our practice in collaboration with the physicians at Capital Area OB/GYN and Raleigh OB/GYN Centre. This allows our patients to seek more specialized care when needed.

Can midwives provide gynecological care when I’m not pregnant?

Absolutely. Our Certified Nurse-Midwives offer well-woman care including annual exams, cancer screenings, birth control counseling, evaluation and treatment of sexual health, STD screenings, menopause management, and other health and wellness support.

How do I get a birth certificate and social security card for my child if he or she is delivered by a midwife?

Because the City of Oaks CNMs perform all deliveries at REX Hospital, your child will receive a birth certificate and social security card, in the same way, all babies born in hospitals do. The hospital provides and handles the appropriate forms after childbirth.
